Bulgaria,
with it's outstanding natural landscape from untouched woodlands
to snow capped peaks is an increasingly popular tourist
destination. The countryside abounds with quaint towns and
historic buildings, hinting at an engrossing past.
Bulgaria
is known for it's excellent local food, coffee is worth
a particular mention. The major towns have large numbers
of bars and restaurants
The
capital, Sofia, was largely rebuilt after the Second World
War. It boasts and excellent and efficient transport system
aiding access to the many nearby attractions such as the
14th Centaury church of St. Petka Samardjiiska and the National
Museum of History, which was the former residence of the
communist leader Todor Zhivkov.
Mt Vitosha
to the south of Sofia is a popular skiing resort in winter,
and a visual feast for sightseers in the summer months.
